The worlds first ever hybrid supermini has been revealed, the Toyota Yaris Hybrid. The vehicle from Japanese manufacturers, set to debut in March, uses a similar drive system to the Toyota Auris.
The Hybrid Synergy Drive power train has been redesigned to fit with the compact Toyota Yaris body. Its power is generated from a 1.5-litre petrol engine which is joined to a electric motor and compact battery pack, producing bhp, with the Yaris Hybrid's front wheels acquiring power from Toyota's e-CVT automatic gearbox.
As the batteries are now positioned beneath the back seats, this allows for the Toyota Yaris Hybrid to fit a 286-litre boot, found in standardised petrol and diesel Yaris editions.
CO2 Emissions are expected to within the best in the supermini class, although emissions and economy figures are currently yet to be confirmed by Toyota.
More information on the Toyota Yaris Hybrid will be released closer to release in March, although it has been confirmed that it will be sold in the UK in the summer.
