Mazda's new compact CX-5. 

Mazda have moved into a new segment of the market with their new CX-5 which could prove to be a very lucrative. I have to say I was very impressed when I first seen the new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover and then seeing it at the Frankfurt motor Show it still does not disappoint. The CX-5 was finished off in Electric Blue which looked really impressive under the bright lights of the Mazda Stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and I have to say it was definitely in my top five cars of the show.

The Mazda CX-5 will be powered by a new SKYACTIV engine and transmission set up, which Mazda claim will become a class leader for economy, emissions and performance thanks to the new lightweight body set up. Power comes from a 2.2litre 173bhp diesel engine which produces less than 120g/km of CO2 emissions, while a 2.0 litre 164bhp petrol engine will also be available, both engines will be available in either front or four-wheel drive.

Mazda have predicted that the diesel will be the best seller and hinted that prices could start at around the £23,000 mark. A Mazda spokesmen ruled out any chances of a high performance MPS version as the 2.2 litre 173bhp diesel has plenty of power to keep all drivers satisfied. Click here to see all Mazda lease car deals
