Kia's New GT Coupe

Peter Schreyer who is Kia’s design boss has said the four door Kia GT Coupe is more than just a concept and thinks the car will go into production sometime in the near future. He gave the Kia GT a cautious thumbs up and said this vehicle will fill a gap in the market for Kia, which in turn should find a lot of new customers. Schreyer also mentioned that Kia have been determined to build a rear wheel drive sports car for sometime now, Kia is also expected to reveal a small coupe sports car which will be aimed at Toyota’s FT-86.

The Kia Range has come a long way over the last few years and it has to be said that Kia have managed to turn the company around into a respectable brand which people now take seriously. Peter Schreyer said that such cars as the GT Coupe is fine and well but Kia also needs to build popular cars for the masses to help boost sales volume, but there is always room to build a halo, small volume model too. Despite the confidence shown by Kia’s new design direction which we should see in the next generation Kia Cee’d – there is still work to be done on how Kia name their new cars though. Schreyer would like to see a dramatic change which would see them swapping the less catchy Kia Picanto, Kia Rio and Kia C’eed, for K1, K2 and K3 naming system.
