Fords small but powerful EcoBoost engine.
Ford’s range of EcoBoost engines is about to be joined by the smallest unit yet a 1.0 litre three cylinder unit. But don’t be fooled by the size of the new Ecoboost as it has the highest power density of any Ford engine currently produced.
Ford's CEO Alan Mullaly unveiled that the new factory in cologne is where the new engine will be assembled by a workforce of 870 employees who will build around 350,000 a year.
The new Ecoboost will be fitted to the Ford Focus and will be offered with either 123bhp with 170Nm of torque that returns 56.5mpg while only producing 114g/km of CO2. The other version offers 98bhp and 109g/km of Co2 which will be the best in the petrol model class.
Ford’s new 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will deliver fuel efficient performance while producing low CO2 emissions thanks to technology breakthroughs to do with turbocharging and direct injection systems. These types of fuel efficient powerful engines are what customers in the current climate want.
